Different sources answer different questions.

Official guidance

Combines evidence with public-health priorities and local rules. Useful for action, but not automatically universal.

Reviews and cohorts

Show the wider pattern and long-term associations. They can still be affected by study quality and confounding.

Randomised trials

Test a defined change under set conditions. Strong for that comparison, but often shorter and narrower than real life.

Selection standard: priority goes to systematic reviews, major trials, official scientific opinions and primary public-health sources. Inclusion is not endorsement of every conclusion. This page is educational and does not replace individual medical advice.

Does eating eggs raise cardiovascular risk?

What it supports

Across three large US cohorts and an updated meta-analysis, moderate consumption of up to one egg a day was not associated with overall cardiovascular disease risk.

What it does not prove

This is largely observational evidence. Results varied between geographic regions, and it cannot show that eggs themselves prevent or cause disease.

What it does not prove

Environmental impacts vary greatly among foods and producers. Eggs generally have lower greenhouse-gas and land-use impacts than ruminant meat, but higher impacts than many plant proteins.

What it does not prove

Global averages can hide large farm-level variation. Climate, land, eutrophication and water are different measures and cannot be collapsed into one universal score.
